Overview of Addiction, Treatment and Recovery (2 Hrs)

This online training course consists of five bitesize sessions, which will provide you with an overview of addiction, withdrawal, recovery and treatment.

You will gain knowledge on the theories of addiction, the development of addiction, the brain’s reward pathways, and withdrawal from addictive substances.

You will also explore the concepts surrounding the recovery of addictive substances, including abstinence, harm reduction, relapse, and treatment and support options.

Contemporary Practices in Addiction Treatment (1.5 Hrs)

This online training module provides you with an overview of addiction, treatment, and recovery.

The training is delivered in five manageable sessions, where you will learn at your own pace about the definitions and theories underpinning addiction, treatment, and recovery models.

You can consolidate your learning at the end of each session with a short quiz to assess your knowledge.

Non-Substance Behavioural Addictions (1 Hr)

In this course, you will explore non-substance behavioural addictions.

Participants will learn about the definitions and theories underpinning non-substance behavioural addictions, explore the different types of behavioural addictions, and investigate treatment options for behavioural addictions.

12 Steps and CBT (1.5 Hrs)

This online training course consists of five bitesize sessions, where you will learn about the fundamental principles and benefits of 12-Steps and CBT programmes in treatment for substance addiction and misuse.

You will examine the background to 12-Steps and CBT approaches.

You will also explore the research evidence supporting 12-Steps and CBT approaches in treatment for addictions, each approach’s criticisms, and the similarities and conflicts between 12-Steps and CBT.

Carers and Addictions (2.5 Hrs)

This online training course consists of five bitesize sessions covering the issues surrounding those caring for loved ones/family members with substance misuse/addiction problems.

You will explore the characteristics of substance use and misuse, the different types of carers, the effects of addiction on the family and getting help and support for carers and those with substance misuse/addictive disorders.

Socio-economic Impacts of Addiction (1 Hr)

This is a single online course, which examines non-substance behavioural addictions.

As part of this training, you will learn about the characteristics of non-substance behavioural addictions and compulsions and their classifications as psychological conditions.

You will also explore various types of non-substance behavioural addictions and treatment options, care, and support.

Substance Misuse and Mental Ill Health (2 Hrs)

This online training course consists of five bitesize sessions covering the co-occurrence of substance misuse and mental health disorders.

As part of this training, you will explore the relationships and triggers associated with co-occurring substance misuse and other mental health conditions.

You will also examine the various mental ill-health conditions and psychiatric disorders that may coexist with substance dependency and misuse, treatment options, and barriers to treatment and recovery.

Women and Trauma (45 Mins)

In this short module, you will begin by learning about the forms and types of abuse, trauma and the connection between violence and substance abuse.

People may have different ways of responding to overwhelming situations, and understanding the process of trauma (covered briefly in this session) helps to understand our lives in perspective.

This includes learning about triggers, self-harm behaviours, and early and late responses to trauma.

The course ends with strategies to use in recovery and integrating this learning into addiction treatment for holistic healing.

This module can be used independently or in conjunction with other modules to augment your knowledge about addiction recovery.

Young Adults and Health Risk Behaviours (1 Hr)

This online training course consists of five bitesize sessions and is designed keeping young persons in mind.

It gives brief but concise information about substances, substance use and addiction, and the short term and long-term effects of using psychoactive substances, especially for a developing brain.

It will also briefly explore other health risk behaviours along with the corresponding health adaptive behaviours.

This module can be used independently or in conjunction with other modules to augment your knowledge about addiction recovery.
