APSS – A Social Enterprise Recovery Organisation in Blackpool saving lives and bringing Recovery – Look them up …

Alcohol Peer Support Services (APSS) was developed to help reduce the negative impact Of alcohol consumption, alcohol related crime and disorder and anti social behaviour in our communities while also helping in the fight to decrease the amount of alcohol related deaths in the North West of England with other service providers. A huge part of their work is to support those already in recovery and alcohol free after an dependency/addiction to alcohol themselves OR aiming down that recovery route by showing ourselves as living proof that there is light at the end of the tunnel and it can be done. ALL their mentors/volunteers are in recovery and alcohol free themselves following their own dependency to alcohol at some point in their lives and now stable/strong enough to help others by sharing their own journey.

APSS aim to provide caring and confidential services, consisting of an alcohol outreach team, peer-2-peer recovery groups and our own unique 1-2-1 mentoring service.
We have worked with street drinkers, homeless & vulnerable adults suffering from alcohol abuse and individuals returning to Blackpool from detox / rehab or prison !!
They also develop and maintain peer-2-peer led self help groups and services for all in recovery wishing to remain alcohol free, facilitated by abstainers with 2 years + recovery.

We are now an Community Interest Company (CIC) which is an form of social enterprise and officially registered at Companies House 0n 14th April 2009. APSS also provides a signposting/referral link service to alcohol / drug treatment services, tenancy support and volunteering and training etc. We hope you find this information useful. Alcohol Peer Support Services was set up and is run by individuals that have previously, been affected by addiction/dependency to alcohol. All our alcohol mentors and group facilitators have a min of 18 months sobriety to many years in recovery / FREE from alcohol and undergone our own in-house induction training, CRB cleared and complete regular, ongoing Danos modular training We provide support in small group sessions and/or via our own unique 1-2-1 peer mentoring service. Our Definition of Recovery Within APSS is: Recovering from an alcohol problem is a process of change through which an individual achieves abstinence and improves ones health, wellness and quality of life. We strongly believe that controlled drinking for any individuals who have lived through any form of alcohol dependency /addiction is a recipe for disaster.
