Our Treatment Staff are all in recovery
The training of our Addiction Treatment Workers is very important – we insist that all Addictions UK staff have relevant Further and Higher Education in subjects that include Counselling, Coaching, CBT and Addictions issues generally. We also require them to have a good knowledge of the 12 – Steps. A combination of these methods can have a very positive result – hence our success record is very good.
The most important qualification we look for when appointing our staff is their ability and potential for them to train, embrace new ideas and whether they have had personal experiences of addictions themselves. Candidates should have good long term clean time / sobriety. This personal experiences of addiction is often invaluable.
Our clients identify easily with staff members because they can offer such a good mix of skills, It is much harder for clients “to kid a kidder” as I was once told! Sadly more emphasis is now invested in harm reduction services than ever before – and those recovering addicts that want to participate in an abstinence programme cannot find enough placements to work.
It is a long term ambition for Addictions UK to recruit and to employ some of our former clients in years to come. That is definitely our goal!
